Gear Up with NJIT Highlander Racing to Build the Engineers of Tomorrow

NJIT Highlander Racing is a student-run team that designs, builds, and races a rugged off-road vehicle capable of conquering the harshest terrains. Our mission is to provide NJIT students with hands-on engineering experience that goes beyond the classroom, allowing them to develop, manufacture, and assemble their very own single-seater buggy.

Every year, we compete in two Baja SAE competitions, racing against about 100 colleges nationwide. Our team is open to students of all majors and years, giving anyone passionate about engineering the chance to learn, grow, and create.

Our team is organized into six engineering subteams:

  • Chassis 🏗
  • Drivetrain ⚙️
  • Ergonomics 💺
  • Electrical ⚡

Students gain experience with industry-standard tools and software such as SOLIDWORKS, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA). We also fabricate over 80% of our vehicle’s parts in-house, using CNC machines, welders, laser cutters, waterjets, and more. 🏭
